The lighting only on Smith makes her portrayal of Norman the most important thing in that scene. The audience is forced to watch and become enthralled by Norman Rosenbaum like the people did back in 1991. Furthermore, the set is very minimalistic in this scene as well. This was done to make Norman Rosenbaum the sole center of attention. Bass hits can also be herd in the background during key moments of Rosenbaum's speech. These beats reinforce the points he is making and edifies his drive. The conveying of the emotions he feels is the most important part of this scene.
